1.   First you have to remove the PSP faceplate and the lcd screen assembly. If you dont know how to remove them take a look at the PSP screen replacement tutorial.

2.   Remove the screws in this picture. The red triangles are behind the battery. Try to keep the screws for each step of the tutorial separate. Doing this will save you a lot of time when youre putting your PSP back together.

3.   Use a flat head screwdriver to pry the lcd housing out of the PSP. When the tabs are out open the UMD door. You should now be able to get the lcd housing out of the PSP.

4.   Take a look at the large version of this picture. If you're replacing the motherboard, use your pliers to remove the cable that is circled in red. If you're not replacing the motherboard leave it alone for now.  Disconnect all the other cables circled in the picture and remove the screw.

5.   Lift the clasp that holds the cable for the d-pad and remove it. 

6.   Remove the green circuit board (see picture). If you're not replacing the motherboard, remove the screw circled in green and remove the yellow power socket. Leave it attached to the motherboard. 
Take the wireless antenna (gold thingy) that the long wire is soldered to and move them both out of the way. 
Remove the motherboard.

7.   Excellent! Put the motherboard in a ziplock bag and move on to the next step.

8.   Remove the two screws.

9.   Remove a few more screws.

10. Remove the motherboard support.

11. Remove the black plastic part

12. Remove the memory stick reader circuit board.

13. To remove the UMD door cover you have to use your flathead screwdriver to pry the hinge out and to the right. If you use too much force you will break the hinge!

14. Remove the four screws.

15. Remove the UMD assembly.

16. Use your flathead screwdriver to pry the door off the umd drive assembly.

17. You’re 50% done! Installation is the reverse of removal.
